Planning is well underway for Founders Day 2010, to be held on
Please contact the Township Office at 610-793-2151 if you might be interested in joining the Committee. 2011 Township Budget The Board of Supervisors, in its continuing review of the township financial situation, has reluctantly determined that a tax increase is necessary for 2011. The Board has held the property tax rate constant during the recent years of economic turmoil by keeping a close eye on expenses and by utilizing real estate transfer taxes from the now completed surge in new construction. The Board continues to be frugal, but with the growth of the township plus added state and federal requirements, costs are rising and more demands are being placed on staff and infrastructure. The choices are to raise the property tax rate or to implement an earned income and net profits tax (EIT). The Board believes an EIT is worthy of consideration since 1) about 25% of township residents already pay an earned income tax to other municipalities and would thus see no net increase in their taxes as their current EIT would come back to Pocopson, and 2) the property tax burden continues to grow from school district and county tax increases. The rate for an EIT has not yet been determined, but it will be less than half of the 1.0% maximum rate allowed by state law.
More information on the township financial situation and the taxing
options will be presented at the regular 7:30
pm, August 9 Board of
Supervisors meeting at the Township Building. 2010 Township Budget The 2010 Pocopson Township Budget, which the Supervisors adopted at their meeting on December 14, 2009, is available for public inspection at the Township Building during regular business hours (Monday - Friday, 9-12) and through the link above. The budget included no increase in the Township property tax for 2010.
