Minutes from 3/11/10 Meeting of the Parks,
Recreation & Trails Committee

1. Meeting Opened -- Meeting was called to order at 7:30
p.m. In attendance: Tom Bierl, Lawrie
Bolger, Bill Haaf, Zeke Hubbard, Ricki Stumpo.
2. Announcements -- Zeke Hubbard reported that the
Riverside Trails are now owned by the
township.
3. Public Comments –
None
4. New Business
a. George
Zacharkiw of the Scenic Byways Committee, an inter-governmental agency,
presented plans for a 20 mile bike trail that will run from Pennsbury Township
to the Brandywine Creek, including 3.5 miles in Pocopson Township. He stated that the committee’s intention is
to apply for a Federal Grant for the bikeway loop. Engineering study costs for Pocopson
Township are estimated to be about $400,000.
He asked for the support of the township in applying for the grant. PRT agreed to submit a letter of support for
the grant proposal to the Board of Supervisors.
5. Old Business
a.
Eagle Scout
Andrew Simonson, Troop 31, requested project ideas for his Eagle Scout
project. The committee recommended trail
markers and covered bulletin boards for the park entrances.
b.
January
meeting minutes were approved.
c.
Riverside
HOA -- the committee discussed the inclusion
of a Riverside resident on the PRT committee; Bill Haaf to contact HOA.
d.
Lian-Cannon
Hill Trail -- Ricki Stumpo reported that numerous inquiries by new/potential
property owners have been made as to the location of the trail. Committee agreed to recommend to the BOS that
the trail be surveyed and monuments installed.
The removal of the fence blocking emergency access will be discussed at
the April meeting.

Swing Set --
committee reviewed, discussed and approved the addition of a swing set to the tot
lot. Recommendation to be made to the
BOS.
6. Sub-Committee Reports
a.
Trails - Tom
Bierl reported that the Trails Feasibility Study is completed.
b.
CleanWays –
Lawrie Bolger reported that the 3rd annual clean-up plans are underway.
