Minutes from 4/11/10 Meeting of the Parks,
Recreation & Trails Committee

1. Meeting Opened -- Meeting was called to order at 7:30
p.m. In attendance: Tom Bierl, Lawrie
Bolger, Chris Conaway, Bill Haaf, Zeke Hubbard, Joe Stumpo, Ricki Stumpo.

Announcements -- Bill Haaf announced a new committee member, PJ
Gill-Gorenc from Red Bridge Farms.

4. New Business
a.
Memorial Tree
Planting -- Zeke Hubbard reported that a township family inquired about
planting a tree for recently deceased Carl Blackburn, a former township
volunteer. Hubbard proposed a memorial
tree planting near the park pavilion for deceased township volunteers. The committee agreed to recommend the
following to the Supervisors for review: Township will plant a tree, in
memoriam, for a deceased township volunteer who has served for 5 years or has
given outstanding service; an accompanying plaque with volunteer’s name and
dates of service will be installed.
Recommended site for “Memorial Loop” is on both sides of the walking
trail as it continues past the pavilion.
The cost of the plaque, tree and installation to be funded by township.
Committee recommends planting a variety of 4 native trees
to be recommended and priced out by Chris
Conaway.
5. Old Business
a.
Eagle Scout
Project – Andrew Simonson presented designs for covered Park bulletin
boards. The Committee unanimously
approved the designs to be presented to the Board.
b.
Lian-Cannon
Hill Trail -- The surveying project is out for bids. The Committee voted to
request that the Board take immediate action to have the fence removed from 7
Lian Drive (63-4-1.6), as per its discussion at a previous Supervisors’
Meeting. The fence is crossing the
township trail easement and blocking the emergency access to Cannon Hill
Drive. The Committee will request that
the Board issue a letter to the property owner, Thomas Spano, requesting
removal of the fence within 30 days.
c.
Swing Set -
insurance company has approved the structure and expenditure has been approved.
d.
Review of
March minutes was tabled.
6. Sub-Committee Reports
a.
Trails - The Elser easement was discussed briefly. Open Space Committee recognizes trail
consideration as a part of the process.
b.
Stream Team –
Bill Haaf reported that Lauressa McNemar
received grant funding for riparian zone tree plantings to take place at
Barnard House Trail, Red Bridge Farm and private residences. Haaf noted that
stream samplings will take place on 5/1 at McNeamar’s and 5/22 at Mims’.
c.
CleanWays –
Lawrie Bolger reported that the 3rd annual clean-up plans are moving along for
4/24 and she will meet with the Public Works crew to coordinate trash pick up.
