Minutes from 9/10/09 Meeting of the Parks, Recreation & Trails Committee

1.         Meeting Opened -- Meeting was called to order at 7:32 p.m.  In attendance: Tom Bierl, Lawrie Bolger, Bill Haaf, Zeke Hubbard, Chris Conaway.

 

2.         Announcements   -- Zeke Hubbard announced that committee should start thinking about officers for 2010.

 

3.         Public Comments

 

            None

 

4.         Old Business

            None

 

5.         New Business

 

            a.         Tree Grant – Lauressa McNemar obtained a grant for tree planting and would like to partner with the Stream Team’s efforts for planting purposes.

 

            b.         Bill Haaf reported that there is a Community Sustainability Assessment Tool that can be used to evaluate and audit a community’s land-use regulations, planning documents, accomplishments and municipal operations.  He recommends that this could be an opportunity for communications among the committees.

 

6.         Sub-Committee Reports

 

            a.         Trails – Tom Bierl reported that the Trails Feasibility Study is in the hands of Flinchbaugh, who will be producing map for distribution at Founders Day.  The map will show existing trails as a layer on the comprehensive trails map.  Chair and the committee recognize Tom for the tremendous effort he has put forth for the Trails Feasibility Study.                     

                       

            b.         Stream Team – Bill Haaf reported that the installation of metal rods to measure stream bank erosion has been completed at Red Bridge.  Later in the fall, the Stream Team and DEP will take measurements.

 

            c.         Founder’s Day –Founder’s Day set up begins at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday.

 

            d.         CleanWays – Lawrie Bolger reported that she is following up with PennDot regarding the Adopt-A-Highway applications submitted on behalf of BVA, Hickory House Catering and The Fence Authority last spring.
