New Waste Management
and Recycling Ordinance:

Every household and establishment must have
waste collection and disposal service with a minimum pick-up frequency of once
per week. Municipal waste collectors currently serving the area are listed in
the phone directory. Self-delivery to state approved drop-off locations or disposal
facilities within or outside of the Township is also still permitted.

Recycling is now mandatory in the Township, and all municipal
waste collectors working in the Township must now offer recycling. If yours
does not, you must secure a collector who does offer recycling pickup.

Separate recyclables (clear and colored glass food and beverage
containers, #1 and #2 plastic milk and beverage containers, aluminum food and
beverage containers, metal/bimetal cans, high-grade office paper, junk mail,
magazines, phone books, corrugated cardboard, and leaf waste) from the rest of
your trash.

Recyclables (except for leaf waste) can be
accepted commingled by most municipal waste collectors, which means that you
can store them all in the same recycling bin; be sure to ask your collector
·
Recyclable materials, but not leaf waste, can still be deposited
in the large metal SECCRA bins behind the
·
You can dispose of leaf waste four ways:

composting on-site;
-
contracting with a municipal waste collector to arrange for
pickup;

placing leaf bags curbside for free weekly pickup by the Township
Public Works crew during the fall (check the website for dates)

taking leaf waste throughout the year to any
state approved composting facility, such as the SECCRA landfill on Route 926.
Leaves in approved bags, without sticks and other yard debris are accepted free
of charge from Pocopson residents all year at the landfill.

Burning of leaves is still prohibited.
Amendments to Chapter 35 of the Township Code regarding Open Burning:

Except
for recreational fires, no outdoor burning of anything anywhere in the Township
except during daylight hours;
·
No
indoor or outdoor burning at any time of:
(1) Leaf waste;
(2) Municipal waste;
(3) Household hazardous waste;
(4) Construction debris;
(5) Rubber;
(6) Junked cars;
(7) Human and/or animal waste; or
(8) Recyclables, including all
paper and cardboard products and packaging
