Parks & Open Spaces

Dedicated Open Space Tax:

In 2006, Pocopson voters approved the institution of an additional 1 mil of property tax dedicated to the preservation of open space for obligations made by the end of 2011. The Township has purchased the development rights to 615 acres. While the land continues to be privately owned, it may not be developed, thus ensuring that it will remain as open space and help preserve Pocopson’s rural character.

Park and Recreation Facilities:

Pocopson Park is located between Locust Grove and Wawaset Roads, north of Corinne Road.

There are two parking lots:

477 Locust Grove Road, West Chester, 19382
520 S. Wawaset Road, West Chester, 19382

Covid-19 Restrictions: Pocopson Township Community Parks (pathways, trails, etc.) are still open and people are encouraged to walk outside, jog, ride bikes, etc. Please maintain social distancing measures and wear a mask when unable to do so.

Let’s all do our part to help flatten the curve and prevent an outbreak.

Recreational facilities on the Locust Grove Road side of the Park include a playground and tot lot. Built in 2007, the tot lot feature a spiderweb-like structure that encourages development of upper body strength. To keep our youngest residents entertained, the Township also acquired a horse-shaped climber appropriate for toddlers. Originally shaped like a dinosaur, the design of this structure was modified to reflect the Township’s rural character. In 2015, the Township installed an additional playground area with new equipment, as well as benches and bleachers at the soccer field. A loop of fitness stations should appeal to a broader range of park users.

Also on this side of the park is a pavilion that provides a large, shaded area for picnics, Scout and community meetings, etc. Six picnic tables and two grills are available. The Township soccer and baseball fields are close by, along with bathrooms.

On the S. Wawaset Road side of the park are tennis and basketball courts (and from May to October, portable toilets). Across the street is the northern end of a paved bikeway that runs south and parallels S. Wawaset Road down to Lenape-Unionville Road. You can access the Pocopson Park loop trail from either parking lot.

For park reservations, please call the Township Office at 610-793-2151 or e-mail receptionist@pocopson.org. Residents and local athletic clubs can reserve the soccer and baseball fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, and pavilion / picnic facilities. For the Park Reservation Form click Parks Dept Facility Reservation Form – 2022 Fees.

Pocopson Creek Park has a short walking trail, benches, and a view of Pocopson Creek. You may park at the Public Works building, 1440 Lenape Road; the trail begins just south of the parking lot.

Barnard House trail is a 1 mile loop that runs behind the Barnard House at 650 S. Wawaset Road. Parking is available in a large paved lot behind the building. Walk up the hill to be rewarded with a scenic view of the 70 acres that were transferred to the Township from Chester County in October 2008.

You can also access this trail from Pocopson Park. Walk on the south (Corrine Road) side of the Pocopson Park loop trail. About halfway between S. Wawaset and Locust Grove Roads, there is a crosswalk. If you cross Corrine Road (you will see the Locust Grove Schoolhouse on your right) and continue along the gravel trail, you will reach the northwestern corner of the Barnard House loop trail.

Dogs must be leashed at all parks and trails!
